02/10-02/13 [in person, Los Alamos, NM] Machine Learning in Python for Scientists and Engineers, February 10-13, 2025
Based on the popular course of the same name from Enthought Academy, in this course you'll learn the fundamentals of Machine Learning in Python for use in Science and Engineering disciplines. Using scikit-learn, we'll start by introducing you to the terminology of artificial intelligence and machine learning and the kinds of problems they can address. Then we'll discuss, demonstrate, and give you an opportunity to get guided practice in a variety of classification and regression problems (supervised learning with labeled data) before moving on to clustering and decomposition in unsupervised learning problems. In-class examples include both the well-known datasets provided with scikit-learn (iris, diabetes, California housing, et al) as well an extensive guided demo using engineering materials (concrete) data.
